You might find answers to your questions among the information about
non-gambling Las Vegas at

WE are going to Las vegas for 3 nights 30 Nov to 3 Dec.

Any help to find a hotel that is cheap & clean doesn't need to be fancy. We
have a car so don't mind travelling within LAs Vegas
We have looked at a few online booking sites but they are cheap till you add
children ( 2 daughters 16 and 18)

How cheap? What's your price range?

At 16 and 18 years old, there isn't going to be much for them to do. Maybe
they would rather stay home and you could make it a second honeymoon.

That's silly. There are tons of activities in Vegas for teens. Just off
the top of my head: the various roller coasters, walking along the
Strip, swimming, and Gameworks. Then there are also bus tours or family
outings via car to places such as Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon.

I guess I was thinking more in terms of the adults spending time in
the casinos. Actually, I wouldn't want my children (of any age), out
on the street, unsupervised in a strange city - especially one where
there are some unsavory types running around.

I would not think the ratio of unsavory types to "normal" folks would
be all that different in Las Vegas versus any other large city.

There is probably a mall somewhere, which, of course, is nirvana for
two teen girls - if you can afford to foot the bill!

There is a plethora of shopping malls in the area. On the Strip, you
have Fashion Show mall, the Forum Shops at Caesars, The Desert Passage
at the Alladin, and the Canal Shops at the Venetian. I think Fashion
Show, after its expansion, is now the largest mall in NV. The others
are also of substantial size, and have various themes [you can figure
that out by the names].

I used to like the Forum Shops. They have aquariums to tie in to
their "Lost City of Atlantis" motion simulator movie. Never did the
movie, but watching the fish is free.

There also used to be an FAO Schwarz in the Forum Shops. It closed,
but I read that a new incarnation of the store is supposed to open by
December. Don't know how it will compare to the old store.

Off the Strip, you have Las Vegas Premium Outlet mall up near the
County Building [Grand Central Parkway] and Las Vegas Outlet mall
[formerly the Belz Factory Outlet mall] on Las Vegas Blvd, south of
Warm Springs. [I consider this "off-Strip" because I figure the Strip
is just Las Vegas Blvd between Russell and Sahara]. Both are served
by the local bus service [CAT-Citizens Area Transit].

In terms of "traditional" malls, the two other big ones are the
Boulevard Mall [Maryland Parkway, a block north of Flamingo] and
Sunset Galleria [Sunset Blvd and Stephanie, in Henderson (of course)].
The other area mall is the Meadows Mall, but given the other choices,
why would anyone go to Meadows?

Further off is the premium outlet mall at Primm. Buses run there from
New York-New York for $10 roundtrip. Otherwise, it's a 40 minute
drive southwest on I-15.

And yes, there
are tons of opportunties to EAT - God knows. As for the roller
coasters, I suppose that would be something to do, although I never
found them particularly appealing when I was a teenage girl.

They can also get pricey considering you're paying per-ride. But the
New York-New York ride was lots of fun. Desperado, the coaster down
in Primm, was also a blast.

Just from my experience in Vegas, thinking in terms of a 16 and 18
year old, I just don't see anything that would be even remotely
interesting except maybe that ghost town that I have seen brochures
for.

I don't think there are any really interesting ghost towns that close
to Las Vegas. Rhyolite is several hours away. Sloan has little to
see. Perhaps you saw a flyer for Bonnie Springs? That's not really a
ghost town so much as an "old Las Vegas" theme park. Well, not really
a theme park, but I don't know what else to call it. They've got some
wooden stores and restaurants and a petting zoo. Probably not very
interesting to teenagers, but maybe for younger kids.

Of course, just hanging out at the pool and hotel room can be fun.

Probably too cold to hang out at the pool. If they're
outdoor-oriented, then I would second the Red Rock Canyon National
Conservation Area suggestion. I would also second Hoover Dam. And,
if they are video-game oriented, I would also second GameWorks [near
the MGM].
