Default Palm Springs, CA info

I am heading to a conference in Palm Springs, CA this winter that will
be held at the Hilton Resort, only 2 miles from the airport.. I will
have a few part afternoons or evenings off but no extended breaks. Is
there anything you would deem essential to see that I would need a car
to get to? Anyone know of any nearby bed and breakfasts, nothing fancy,
just a more intimate atmosphere than a big resort that are good?
Marie

You'd probably need a car to get anywhere at all. The Desert Museum and the
tramway (will be very cold up in the mountain) are two things that come to
mind.

If you do get a car, tour Joshua Tree National Park, just North & East
of Palm Springs. There's an interesting loop you can take by going
around to the North side on SR 62.

We really enjoy Palm Springs for a winter vacation. Joshua Tree
National Park was mentioned already, and is quite a sight. At least
as good for a short day hike is Indian Canyon, south of town. It
includes a wonderful palm oasis and is an easy walk. The tram up
the mountain is scenic, and fun if you want to go sledding or
snowshoeing or the like up there. It's possible the Hilton would
have a shuttle to the tram and/or Indian Canyon, but I don't really
know. Probably not Joshua Tree; it's farther.

There are many places, with a wide range of personality. The
Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce will send you a booklet with
all of the different styles of accommodation.
