Default ATM Checking Vs Savings in New Zealand

Like to know if in New Zealand foreign ATM cards must pull from one's
savings or checking account. My ATM card is set up to pull from my
savings account here in California.
Evidentially in some countries ATMs will only pull from one's checking
account.
Not sure about New Zealand?

Was there in Feb/March last year - and as I remember it offered the choice.
It didn't worry me because I operate just one savings account which has
cheque-book access and an overdraft facility!

I was there in January and took money from both accounts. It gives you the
option to choose your account type. I'm sure I always chose the savings
option for both.
