Cheap hotels in Melbourne? Perhaps, but the sites mentioned above offer
rooms for about $150-$200/night. Compared to Europe, I've found it very
difficult to find inexpensive (not *budget*) lodgings in Australia. It
seems everything has to go through some central booking.

We finally managed to find (through much research using Google), Hotel
Claremont (189 Toorak Rd, South Yarra) which looked quite nice. Check
them out at hotelclaremont.com
