Regarding the Aug. 1 front-page story "The Curious Mind of John
McCain":

Why, in this day and age, should we have a candidate for the most
important job in the world who hasn't been curious enough to learn to
use a computer until recently and had never sent an e-mail? His
performance at the Naval Academy, fifth from the bottom of his class,
gives one concern about his intelligence and curiosity.

The most scary statement in the article was Mr. McCain's own line from
his book "Worth the Fighting For": "We can all stand a little self-
improvement from time to time, but it's hard to accomplish when you
have reached my age." Exactly.
