Default Flights to Australia

Morning all,
I'm going to Australia at the end of the year and I've spent the last month
looking for "cheap" flights. At the moment, Etihad are by far the cheapest,
£850 as opposed to all the others at £1000+. These are from EDI to Sydney.
Has anyone here flown with them and have opinions regarding quality,
service, food etc..? Any suggestions about other cheap flights or how to
find them?
Also, what's the deal with the Pacific air pass, I can't find out prices
anywhere.
Ta,
WM

Return or one-way? Flexible dates? Flexible legs?

Have you checked www.kayak.com ?

There is no such animal as a cheap flight. You pay for what you get.

Not quite true, agents take different rates. I noticed huge price hikes
between agents for exactly the same flight.

Well, using the logic that there are some bloody expensive
flights - I'd argue with that. It's certainly much cheaper
to fly these days. Of course, on some services there isn't
the fat in the fare to include meals and other non-essential
services that used to be standard before discounting.

It's when the Grace L Ferguson Airline (and Storm Door
Company) inessentials get cut that I worry; you know, things
like maintenance and pilot accreditation and crew
training...

Absolute bull****. Two people can be sitting side by side in 47B and 47C,
opening the same small containers of vinaigrette dressing, and one might
have paid two or three times as much as the other.

One of them clearly got a cheap flight; the other didn't.

Sources please................................
I don't believe that you could pay three times as much for the same flight.
