Default new to cruising-looking for advice

Hello group, I'm looking for information on the best ships and ports
of call for a couple in their 30's? Hubby and I are considering our
first cruise and the choices seem overwhelming. Anyone out there have
any personal recommendations? Thanks, Amy

Amy,

Help us first....

1. Is there a part of the world that appeals to you more than others?
(Alaska, Caribbean, etc)

2. How long a cruise would you like to try the first time out? (7 days is a
good number)

3. Are you near a port that you would favor for embarkation?

In other words, give us a little something to go on...!

Btw, remember, your first cruise is just that...there will most likely be a
second and a third and a fourth.....

I also suggest that you read Wayne Lundbergs recent review of his first
cruise to get a balanced and exciting view of what to expect. Look in this
newsgroup for "First timer report on Carnival Spirit Mexican Riviera"

Amy. I suggest you both pay a visit to a travel agent who can, with a few
questions, evaluate your taste and likes. The TA can also load you down with
plenty of catalogues that will provide many hours of entertainment as you
explore all the popular cruiselines. The TA can also advise those lines that
may not be to your liking and explain why. Then if you want to book with that
TA you can or go elsewhere. Good luck. It is a delightful addiction.

Having just returned from a cruise on Canival, I recommend that you choose
another cruise line. Passenger complement would best be described as coming
from a fat farm and members of the Tower of Babble Association.

Looks like jsmith is recommending against the most sucessful and most popular
cruiseline. That's why I suggest talking to a professional. jsmith may be
correct in saying Carnival is not for you but does he/she know your wants?.
Everyone has different expectations and experience.

First, pick out the destinations that you would likely want to visit and the
the duration. Then pick out some cruise lines that would be appropriate for
your age group. I would think that Carnival and Royal Caribbean would be
suitable rather than Holland America. Then pick out your time frame and
cost. Go from there. That's basically what we do.

Thank you for the advice-I'm sure it was a dumb question but I just
didn't know if one cruise line targeted younger people, etc. It's so
hard to pick a destination because all the brochures and magazines make
every cruise sound magnificent. That's one of the things hubby and I
are deciding on now. We live near tampa and can travel to the east
coast of florida so there are several ports to leave from. I'll have to
go over the carnival and RC info again. Again, appreciate your
response, Amy
