From the website:

Welcome to the Atlantic Tunnel. In September 2009 we are proud to announce
our first high-speed magnetic suspension train that will embark on its
maiden journey under the Atlantic Ocean to New Jersey.

To celebrate the occasion, we're giving 100 people the chance to make
history by winning an all expense return trip to New York on the first train
through the Tunnel.

This was posted 5 days too late. April Fool's Day was last week.

But then again, is it possible that Jules Verne is alive and well,
living in Paris, and laughing up his brocade sleeve.

Actually, it was posted 5 years too early. Tunnel won't carry commercial
passengers until 2009.
They haven't yet outfitted the tunnel with the tidal turbines to generate the
electrical power along the tunnel, as well as the seaweed fields and Oxygill
devices to extract oxygen from the seaweed fields to pump back into the tunnel.

Also there is a big problem with their plan. They advertise a UK link to New
Jersey. They also advertise downtown to downtown service. But New Jersey isn't "downtown".

Also, you'd think that they would have landd th tunnel at the eastern tip of
Long Island instead of New Jersey. In fact, they could have connected to JFK
airport.

But they were much smarter than that. This is a vehicular tunnel and
there is no point in a terminus at an airport. Also, had they put it
at the eastern tip of Long Island, drivers would still have to
traverse all of a veeeeerrrrry long island and the narrow but
congested island of Manhattan before actually reaching continental
America which does not start until the west side of the Hudson River.

The NJ terminus of the trans-atlantic tunnel is actually right next to
the parking lot for a hot dog stand equidistant from Routes 17 and
280. Gives arrivals a choice of eating or getting into the traffic
back up for Paramus Mall.
