From the diaries of a stay in Québec 2004

Remark: The author has worked in 2004 while the summer with one German
adventurer and baker in Kamouraska Village, Québec. Stories
represented here are based on his diary recordings of this Canada
stay. All these Stories are based thus on true occurences.

The author of these stories was called from closest friends also as
"that Strayer", why this name emerges in the stories.

The magasin général

Pearl and Strayer were together some days on the way. On the
truck from La Sarre to Ottawa Pearl did stop anywhere in the nowhere
before a small building.
"Le magasin géneralé!", Pearl called joyfully, when she jumped out of
the car. "This shop was called like this, because one get here
everything, which one needs for life. Because it is the only shop in
the village."
Suddenly Strayer's face borned cheese-white.
"What's going on?"
"You don't want to say that this kind of thing is also there in
Kamouraska?"
Perle regarded him asking: "Well! Every village in Canada contains a
central shop. You must have gone each day on the way to the work
directly in front of it."
"And why nobody informs me about? Dear Mr. God, there one rides a half
year long with a bicycle the six kilometers from Kamouraska to Saint
Pascal just to buy something over there..."
"What, you have...?"
"I could not understand the words on the sign in the front of the
building. By us in Bavaria the shops looks completely differently.
There on the sign is the word 'Supermarkt*'!"
