One remark on the sidelines. Using a Maestro debit card in
Kenya, I could withdraw up to KSh40,000 at a time (from all
Barclays ATMs), which is currently roughly ¤400, but the menu
offered only amounts up to 20,000. I had to choose "other
amount" and key in 40000. Remember this, it may apply elsewhere
as well.

That depends on the bank. On one of my accounts there is a US$4 charge
for each foreign transaction. It pays to make your transactions few and

Depending on your bank at home there may be a "service" charge ...
I am talking about the amount, the max. amount in ZAR. From my jouneys
to Austria or Italy I know that there is a max. amount each time you
draw cash.

Does anybody know?

Thanks,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

At the bigger banks in and around major cities (Jo'Burg, Cape Town) you will
be able to get your hands on 2000 ZAR at a time. At least 1000 ZAR is
possible.
