Default BA to offer more connections to Africa

So, you are saying it doesn't matter if the US Government says the law
applies to you, it doesn't apply to you?

That all depends. As someone who lives outside of US jurisdiction, and
is not a US citizen, I don't really care about US law.

Obviously when I'm on US soil, that doesn't apply.

Conversely, I rarely violate US law, and only in ways which are
explicitly legal in my jurisdiction, and only in my own jurisdiction.

* *Again, your response totally ignores the situation where you are
at max range, 30 minutes out from your destination, and have to
divert. Where are you going to go if you are in a 747 30 minutes out
from Havana so you will still have your legally required reserves
when you start your approach at your alternate.

If flying PPT-HAV, you wouldn't normally fly over the US.
To get to the US would require flying past Cuba
If you need fuel before getting to HAV, woudn't you stop at CUN or CZM?

I'm fairly sure there will never be a Papeete-Havana flight. It can't
see how it would make any economic sense.

Papeete would be a stop on a Sydney to Havana run. And a
Sydney--Papeete--Havana run might actually make money.

Really? Why?
If PPT-HAV wouldn't make money, why would SYD-PPT-HAV?
There are already flights from SYD-HAV, so the only difference would be
the ppt-hav segment, which was already stated to not make economic sense.

If it were a money maker, why isn't it being done?

Does he have any idea of the population of Tahiti, or of New South Wales
for that matter? Does he know how many Australians would fly direct to
Cuba?

More than you think, with an increasing portion of the Australian
population holidng American citizenship, due to either birth,
or naturalisation. What some people do not realise, is that
if you do not LAND in the U.S., when flying en route to
Cuba, you are NOT SUBJECT to ANY U.S. laws,
regarding Cuba, even if you are a U.S. citizen.

Cuba could become a more popular holiday destination,
for Australians who want to go on holiday during the
winter months from June-September. There would be
more people heading to Cuba on holiday, from Australia,
if there were an easier way to get there without having to
go through a U.S. connecting city.- Hide quoted text -

The people from Australia who go to Cuba will go without a direct
flight. I know several who have and I plan to get there myself soon
enough.

There really would not be enough demand. Cuba is a curiosity. There
are far more Indians than Cubans with roots in Australia and there are
barely any India-Australia flights. I live in one of India's most
prosperous cities and there aren't any direct flights to Sydney or
Melbourne.

Airlines tend to be behind the curve in anticipating routes because of
the large startup capital required: they want to see a huge pool of
potential travellers in both directions before they'll commit to a
route. And even then there's no guarantee - witness BA's short-lived
London to Raleigh-Durham routes in the '80s, or any international
Garuda route.

Don't get carried away about responding to Silly8 about flights to Cuba.
He has some anal infatuation with the country, and is continually posting
misinformation about US laws and routings through obscure countries to
avoid US connections. None of it is of any use to travelers.

Noted.
