Default The Ghan

Can anyone tell me which days of the week the Ghan makes its way from
Adelaide to Alice Springs? Any idea what the overnight sleeper charge is
per person?

Thanks in advance.

Full details here http://www.gsr.com.au/

It leaves Adelaide twice a week, on Sundays and Fridays, the Sunday
departure goes all the way to Darwin.

Check the following web page:

http://www.gsr.com.au/fares/index.htm and more particularly
http://www.gsr.com.au/fares/ghan.htm

You should be able to find the appropriate schedules and fares there. It is
interesting to note that "backpackers" get reduced rates. That seems to mean
those with a IYH (International Youth Hostel) card. See the following link:

The 2005 season was booked out.

I believe that extra services were put on for May to July 2005.

Maybe all those extras have been booked out by this.

If you want to book, do so well in advance.

We booked 9 months in advance and couldn't get "on" then got a cancellation
for June 2005.

Hope it is worth it. I still think it is probably one of *the* great train
journeys of the world.

Depends on what class you are booked in. If in Gold Kangaroo, it will
certainly be worth it.

If however you are booked in Red Kangaroo, you would be equally as
comfortable on a bus, and the quality of the meals at the bus rest
stops would be considerably higher than the muck they serve up on The
Ghan for Red Kangaroo passengers.
