Default Civitavecchia (Port for Rome) - What to do?

We have a 12 hour cruise stop here. We have spent time in Rome and do not
want to take the long drive ship's excursion to spend a few more hours.

Does anybody have any thoughts about where to go from Civitavecchia by foot,
taxi or otherwise for the better part of a day?

Thank you.

Isn't this in the general area near the great Etruscan tomb cities e.g.
Tarquinia and Cervetari -- if so then these would be great day trips

Rent a car or take a bus and visit the etruscan city of Tarquinia... Really
nice!
Tarquinia is really near Civitavecchia, just 23 km away (really good
highway... you can be there in less than 30 minutes by car).
The small city offers a lot (National etruscan museum, medieval town center,
very old churches (year 1000), a very nice panorama from the city walls,
lots of small shops, fine retaurants (especially fish, off course!)... and
the big etruscan necropolis just nor far away...

Another way to visit Latium.
If I were you I would not go too far... Rome demands too much attention...
here you can just stroll around and have fun!

Bon voyage!

Isn't Ostia Antica nearby (the port city for ancient Rome)? I've
never been there, but it's said to rival Pompeii....

I have visited Tarquinia last summer..
and I totally agree it is worth a visit.

I also would recommend eating in a restaurant there..

they serve wonderful food at reasonable prices
( about 15.00 eur person including wine.. )

pls check the opening times of the necropolis

the tombs of Tarquinia and Cervetari nearby are also completely
different -- one group is underground and the painting still visible,
the other is more like a village of houses above ground -- so it is
worth visiting both sites if you have the time to do so.
