Taxes and fees are more than the airfare.

Hi all

Just wondering if any way of knowing what all of the taxes and fees
are for a flight. I ask this, as I have come across a cheap fare on BA
from DEN to LHR in May. The fare comes to $174, while the taxes and
fees are $367.33. I just can't see how the taxes and fees can be more
than airfare itself.

Look up the flight at Travelocity.com

They are not all "taxes" per say. Airlines have unbondled their raw
operating costs and charing those as separate entities visible only
after you've booked. This allows them to advertise low fares.

Rememer than an airline needs to pay for use of airport, and use or air
navigation facilities, and often, those are now shown as taxes even
though they are not taxes. Some airport also charge per-passenger fees
which are charged separately.

And instead of raisong fares, airlines added yet another surcharge for fuel.

Read the fine print. Actual taxes and government/security fees ran around US$100
on my last international ticket (they are mostly not based on the price of the
ticket), but airlines can play lots of tricks with "fees". BA may still be
playing games with fuel surcharges and other revenue enhancement charges.

Ultimately, if going to the Continent you should have booked their deal to
FCO from DEN. UK airports are the most expensive in the world with regard
to the "add ons." s

Very common on those cheap British Airways fares for the taxes and fees
to greatly exceed the air fare cost. That's why they never mention the
amount of the fees in their ads.

I think they are better off telling you only the final price........

Nor are the base fares.
