Default Calais to Blois

I am off on hols to Blois this summer (from London) . I note that via
Michelen and other planners seem to push you through Paris. I am a
fairly confident driver on the continent but have have never attempted
to circumnavigate the capital.

Is it actually the best way go and if so just how arduos is it likely
to be at lunchtime on an August Monday ?

Should I be ignoring this route altogether and going cross country
anyway ?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If its in august, no problem, there are only tourists left in Paris...
Tes rest of the time, just don't go around Paris between 4 and 8 pm and
you'll be fine.
You can also drive the Francilienne and you won't see a bit of Paris !

Calais, Rouen, Le Mans is a much more scenic route - and at lunchtime on an
August Monday, is probably quicker!

I agree with Runge, in august there should be no traffic jams around
Paris, even on the inner ring (périphérique).

I agree that the road through Rouen is a very good alternative too.

Are trucks allowed on the roads on bank holidays in France? They're
not on weekends.

Ugh? What am I on about (seems to be having one of those days) No one
said anything about trucks; But yes they're banned on public holidays
making it all the better for you;

If you click the scenic route option, www.viamichelin gives you an
alternative route via Rouen. The time difference is 7 hours across
country roads vs 4 1/2 via Paris. VM estimates it takes just 30 minutes
to negotiate the Paris from CDG down to the A10, which seems a tad
optimistic - double that at least.
Driving round Paris on the autoroute network and peripherique is
usually slow going - mostly you are standing in traffic jams with
motorcycles screaming past left and right in the gaps between the cars,
and drivers joining from the right assuming priority.
Make a note of the route in advance - the highway lane changes are
non-intuitive in places - like you know you want to go round Paris on
the East, but you take the RH lane coming from the north past CDG.

Be prepared to be stuck in convoys of cars towing caravans if you pick
the wrong weekend.

That depends very much on the time and date when you do it.

Yes that can be very tricky.

Thanks for all of your responses gentlemen.

I must admit that I am favouring the Rouen route. Having done a few
trips to Italy on peak holiday dates in August, including Rome, I am
not averse to busy traffic and quues, however if I have an option to
avoid it I will !

We are now doing a two centre trip and are moving on to the coast
close to La Roche sur Yon after one week and then back to Calais
direct so these runs remove away the conundrum of which way to go
home !

Thanks again gents

Richard (can't wait !)
