Can anybody recommend a local travel agency in Chengdu?

Local how so? Only operates in Chengdu? National or international

I need somebody who can organise a car+driver for a couple of days.
Usually local agencies have the better connections, but it's actually
irrelevant how "local" the agency is as long as they can provide the
service at a competitive price.

various reasons (spamfilter, recipient not liked etc.) and for the rest
nobody replied to me.

I then googled a bit for "chengdu travel agency", found a few additional
travel agencies, emailed them all. Only one replied asking where I want
to go, then they will give me a quote.

I don't know why it is such a problem to communicate via email with
Chinese travel agencies.

If you already have accommodation sorted out in Chengdu, ask the hotel to
arrange a driver / guide for you.
If you haven't got any accommodation arranged, use an agent like TCG or
China Odyssey to book the room for you and to provide a driver guide.

then contact some of the members living in Chengdu for recommendations.
