Luxembourg station reopens
http://www.deredactie.be/cm/de.redac.../news/1.450161
Wed 14/01/09 15:24 (UPDATE video) - The Belgian Public Enterprises Minister Steven Vanackere (Flemish Christian democrat) has officially opened the new Luxembourg Station. The station at the heart of the European District has been completely renovated. The station in the Brussels borough of Elsene is partly located under the European Parliament Building. Many people who use the station work for the European Union. The rebuilding operation has been underway for ................................. 15 years..................................... Little of the original building remains. Only the front of the old building is incorporated into the new one. Inside a large fresco by the strip cartoonist Hergé immediately strikes the eye. The fresco is based on a drawing of a steam locomotive dating from 1932. The fresco also pictures a crowd of Brusselers as well as several cartoon characters. |
