Bergen to Nordkapp
On 2009-01-11 17:48:43 -0600, Jack Campin - bogus address
said: Nordkapp isn't actually the northernmost point on these maps: that's Knivskjellodden, a few kilometres west on the same island, with no road to it. Since neither of them is on the mainland it's not clear why they should have any special significance. Well, Nordkapp is the most northly place I can get to, practically. This is in part a 'check off' of something to do - how far north can I get, and part, for the scenic drive to get there. I once also reached the very south tip of the South Island of New Zealand. Another place with extremely beauty spots. -- Dan Stephenson Photos, movies, panos from the Europe, USA, plus N.Z.: http://homepage.mac.com/stepheda (remove nospam from email address to reply via email) |

Jack Campin:
I have a set of five maps of the whole of Norway (some at 1:325,000, some at 1:400,000) published by Cappelens. They're probably what you'd want for the proposed trip if they're still in print... Yep, same ones I was using. But I don't have the complete set. -- Mark Brader "...out of the dark coffee-stained mugs of Toronto insane programmers throughout the world..." -- Liam Quin |

"Martin":
Have you tried using Google Maps and or Google Earth? Mark Brader: I prefer to use a text-only environment when accessing Usenet, and anyway, Google Maps maps don't show distances between cities along a road like real ones do. Markku Grönroos: What is this supposed to mean? When Google Maps does routing on a roadnetwork, it does show distances alright. ... Oh, sure, if you ask the computer to find a route. But good grief, what do we have human intelligence for? -- Mark Brader | "The good news is that the Internet is dynamic. Toronto | The bad news is that the Internet is dynamic." | -- Peter Neumann |

You can naturally choose what ever route by hand and the Google Maps tells the distance from one turning point to the next one. |
