SWISS future at stake
SWISS is to hold a press conference today to discuss its future. After 2 years
since the bankrupcy of Swissair, SWISS has yet to make a profit and is still in dire financial situation. It is interesting that BBC makes a fairly gloomy outlook for SWISS, but the article below show a more positive progress. http://www.huginonline.com/plsql/try...=939066&p_la=5 Now that they are member of Oneworld, I wonder if they will be able to further downsize their network and leverage codeshares on OW partners. One notable aspect in the article is that SWISS has reduced its share of transfer passengers at Zürich (to analysts this is god because it increases yields). They also have raised load factors to a respectable 76% by reducing capacity. (they went from 111 planes down to 83). The big question is whether Swiss will try to get euro Oneworld customers to travel via Zürich instead of LHR to save time and increase convenience, or whether Swiss will itself become a feeder to BA's international network, with Swiss only operating the intl flights that the local swiss market can support. |

After 2 years since the bankrupcy of Swissair, SWISS has yet to make a profit and is still in dire financial situation. The bankruptcy of Swissair and the current problems of Swiss are very sad. Swissair had a certain panache that few airlines have. The former CEO, Jeffrey Katz, drove Swissair into the ground and then left to go to Orbitz. Yet another case of a CEO providing little value but receiving large compensation. Pete |
