Don't take me for a beginner
If you hadn't plagued the NG with your stuff there wouldn't have been all
that.

In article . com,
says...
Gee Earl, I didn't know you liked Giuliani (snicker)

Did you know about your Mum's rash before you caught it, Stephen? It
seems there are lots of things you don't know.

Am I the only person here to have thought that Obama should do something
about changing his truly unfortunate surname?
Maybe I don't get the joke, but I don't really see what's wrong with it...

Not really a joke but an unfortunate similarity. His political
opponents could have a ball with it, too.

Oh. I hadn't noticed it at all. Do you have an indication that people are
using
this similarity? I've never seen any references or jokes about it until you
mentioned it.

Not one. I'm surprised that nobody else has picked up and run with it.
I'm sure that you can imagine the possibilities.

I made a play with his name when I referred to
his excellent speech at the Democratic Convention

Don't worry about Osama, remember Obama

I dunno, it seems like quite a stretch. What kind of jokes would they
make? He's in league with Osama because his name is similar? Doesn't
strike me as particularly funny.

Makes me think of the jokes that had Bush standing up next to a
white-board, with "IraQ" and "Al Qaeda", circling the Qs saying "See,
there's a clear link!"

I don't think that it's funny (save for a wee bit of irony in the
confluence) but it is certainly a weapon that his opponents could use.

Don't laugh. I'm sure they've tried it and it is amazing what the
voting public will believe.

Wait -- you were suggesting that it could be used as a weapon against
him? Do you seriously think people would fall for that? I don't always
give the 'voting public' a lot of credit but you've got me beat here.

To be honest, I'm not sure it would 'convince' somebody; rather, if they
already agreed with the speaker they'd just nod their heads in
agreement. But seriously, as with the 'Obama'='Osama' point, I don't
believe that somebody with a modicum of intelligence would fall for it,
unless they already agreed with it anyhow.

Never, ever underestimate the gullibility of the voting
public. Politicians don't - why should we?
