Default Great wall of China, from Hong Kong -how?

Well, there are probably no SHORT trips from there to the 'mainland'
but if you want to do that trip the best would be to fly to Beijing.
For budget accomodations I'd reccomend the New World Marriott hotel in
the Chongwenmen district (Not sure of spelling) It's decent and
comfortable. Is only 1/2 block from Subway station and generally
quite well located.
In fact, the mini-busses that go to the Great Wall leave from a 'bus
depot' that is located 2 stops west of the station at the Mariott.
Just go two stops, surface, and wander around the mini-busses and say
the name of the place you want to go. Last time I was there they had 3
distinct destinations, but that may have changed- it was 3 years ago.
Expect it to take a full day. I think the mini-busses leave at 8:30 or
so they say, but in fact they leave when they are full. If there are a
zillion Chinese there, they'll leave as soon as all the seats are
full, so take schedule with a grain of salt.
Hope it works out for you.

I'll be visiting Hong Kong, and I was wondering about taking a short

If I don't have money to burn, how do I get there (and back), and is it
a short or long trip? In case it'll take more than a day's trip, are
there cheap backpacker places there where I could stay the night?
