Default EXPEDIA SUCKS!

Reference # 24198684 To Whom It May Concern at Expedia: I have been

trying for 6 days to get a fraudulent charge taken off my credit card
that was put there by your client, Rhea's Inn By The Sea. I have spoken

with countless Expedia employees who could or would not help me in this

matter. I want you to know that I will fight this as far as I have to
to get this resolved. You should be ashamed of yourselves for spouting
off about Customer Service that you do NOT supply to hapless
travellers.

You're barking up the wrong tree. Try discussing the charge with Rhea's Inn.
If that fails, contact the bank that issued your credit card and explain
that you did not authorize the charge.

You use Google. Are they responsible for the entire internet?

Sorry you got ripped off, but it's not Expedia's fault.

The procedure is to talk to the credit card company and they sort the
rest out.

Which I believe has to be done within a certain period of time for
them to be of help. I suspect Romy was a little late off the mark, and
decided to blame the messenger instead.

This may be a silly question, but if Expedia isn't giving
you any satisfaction, why not take it up with your credit
card company? Whenever I find an erroneous charge on my
monthly statement, I call the card company, explain why I do
not consider the charge legitimate, and they remove it from
my bill. (Presumably they charge it back to the merchant,
so they're not out anything, but so far as I'm concerned,
that resolves the matter - obviously I don't make a habit of
such complaints, so apparently they accept my word that I'm
justified in refusing to pay the charge.)

I echo your subject line, "Expedia sucks!" I never use them any more
unless I absolutely have to, I'll even go through a traditional travel
agent first. What I do still use them for is searching for hotels and
flights because their search interface is very easy to use. Once I
find what I want, whether it be hotel or flight, then I go to Orbitz
or Travelocity to book it because they usually have better prices and
far less restrictions.

If you've never dealt with the merchant who charged your card, then you're
right.

Since the OP is pursuing Expedia and has a reference number, I assume he
made a booking at the inn. I don't know whether he was charged for extra
nights or for room service that was never ordered but in such a situation,
dealing directly with the inn could resolve the matter much faster than
letting the bank handle it.

If he can convince the inn that their billing is incorrect, they could issue
a refund on his card that would post within a couple days.

If he goes straight to the bank that issued his card, they'll start by
canceling the card and issuing a new one with a different number. This
leaves him without a credit card for a few days. Then their fraud department
will launch an investigation that will last at least a month. During that
time, the charges will remain on his account, effectively lowering his
credit limit.

I've been through both situations and suggest that people avoid the latter
until they've tried the former. Of course they need to act quickly as banks
will be suspicious of someone reporting fraudulent charges they've known
about for a couple weeks.

In all cases of credit card fraud the right thing to do is contact
the credit card company. There is no need to waste time
entering into a dialogue with the organisation that defrauded you.

Unless the merchant is willing to acknowledge the fact that they screwed up
the billing. Then you can save -- not waste -- your time by dealing with
them directly.
