That's certainly Boeing's position, but it's far from obvious that Boeing
has assessed things accurately. The growth of Dubai and Emirates suggests
otherwise, for instance, as does the KLM-Air France merger. If long, thin
routes are the order of the day, why merge with another carrier whose home
hub is one of the largest in Europe, as opposed to, say, SK, AZ, or IB?


Yes, this idea of 'de-hubbing', whatever sort of a word that is, is
plain nonsense. Hubs will become increasingly important, just as new
point to point routes will start. It's not either or, there will be
expansion in both areas.
