Whats the best time in advance to book flights? (transatlantic).

Have you tried sites like Farecast? They will send you alerts when to
buy and not to buy and also will show you prices at the same time last year. ---- http://www.moviesitearchive.com/travel On Aug 1, 1:48*am, paulfoel wrote: Whats the best time in advance to book flights? "paulfoel" wrote in message ... Whats the best time in advance to book flights? (transatlantic). Is it as early as possible for the cheapest? I'd heard it was something like 90 days.... There are so many variables. Mid week is usually a cheap time to travel. When I had access to staff travel (which depends on empty seats) Tuesday and Wednesday were the days to go for. Season has an effect on prices. Travel in November is likely to be cheaper than July for instance. Knowing that lots of other people want to travel at Easter or Christmas or in August two things happen (1) the airlines price up (2) the cheapest seats that do happen to be available sell early. On the other hand, if you travel when other people don't you will find the airlines offer more cheap seats and they remain on sale for longer. Then there are "sales". If you fit in with one of those, you may be in business. Just occasionally, very occasionally, VERY OCCASIONALLY, you may find a flight that has been expensive suddenly get cheap(er) at the last minute if the airline realises they haven't sold all the seats. This is not "standby" - that doesn't exist as a means of getting cheaper fares. Routes can be interesting as well. Suppose you want to fly from the East Coast to the UK. You might find that Washington/London is cheaper than New York/London when you want to travel or that Boston/Glasgow is cheaper than New York/Edinburgh. Flying the shortest route is no guarantee of the cheaper fare; Denver/London is routinely more expensive than Los Angeles/London. Non stop can be more expensive than a connection - e.g Denver/Chicago/London can cost less than Denver/London. In the end it's a game of cat and mouse. All you can do is shop around and when you see a destination that suits, on dates that work for you, at a price you can afford, book it. Then shut your eyes to all travel adverts. |
