Default traveling with my car to Europe

Mark Brader:
The last thing to be mentioned is that this system offers one
significant advantage over the one used in Europe and on some
American cars, where all turn signals are yellow. When it's dark
and you see a turn signal flashing some distance ahead of you,
if the rear-facing turn signals are red, then you know immediately
whether this one is on a car facing toward you or not.

Jesper Lauridsen:
You can't tell this by the big white headlights versus the small red
rear lights?

Not necessarily, if your line of view includes cars moving both ways.

Now I know why some US driving licences aren't "valid" in Europe.

The ones where red lights are visible are facing away from you. The ones
with white lights visible are facing towards you. Is it different in the
USA ?

those hummer things have orange lights across the top front, so i
would guess in US its quite hard to tell from lights quite what you
are looking at

Aided by the fact that the drivers are pretty unsure which way they're
going as well?

I think the US test is pretty basic

There is no "US" test. Each state has its own.
