Mentality of the European??? You are talking about one Irish budget
airline. Us ground-bound folks here in Europe would have to hunt long and
hard to find a pay toilet.

It's amazing how much you think you know about Europe speaking from small
town Georgia.

Should I copy/paste more of those posts to usenet and respnses to our
"pay to pee" experiences in Europe way back then, Ms Donna?

"Way back then" are the operative words here, Mr. O'Donovan. We are not in
2004 anymore. Nor is France Austria. And I have already talked about
people now picking up after their dogs here.

You persist in believing that your experience is the only experience.

Pay toilets are not uncommon in Europe. Paris, in particular, makes
heavy use of them; the streets of the city are forested with self-
cleaning, coin-op booths (landmarks like Sacre-Coeur generally have
several). Riders on the Metro may encounter coin-op toilets in the
underground stations; and even non-mechanized toilets occasionally
have attendants who expect tips...."

Okay, I give up. I just haven't seen any for a very long time. I must not
go to the right places, not being a tourist. I certainly have not seen them
on the freeways.

Poor ****head O'Donovan gets it wrong again. The 'pay toilets' he
mentions in Paris, are in fact free.

The truth is you don't go out of the sanitized richer places where all the
anglos congegate.
So you don't know much of the country where you took refuge.

Default What is your problem, anyway?

What is the problem with a pay to use the toilet system anyway? It creates
jobs, keeps public toilets clean, provides a necessary service, and
eliminates time-wasting hunts for other toilets. People who use these
facilities do not have to slink into a department store or a restaurant
trying to look unobtrusive while seeking the toilet.

In fact, most of Europe is ahead of the U.S. in this respect of providing
easily available toilet facilities. When I visited Ireland in 2005, the
public toilets in Ennis were a godsend. There I was, in an unfamiliar city
and not knowing where to find a toilet until I saw the public ones. Thank
you, citizens of Ennis!

Are you ready to go on record as claiming to be a bigot and racist? I would
just like to know. Your post is so full of inaccuracies, not the leasst of
which is blaming everything and anything on illegal Hispanic immigrants.

So, let's have it: Are you a bigot and racist?

What on earth are you on about? I live in the UK and a small amount of
public toilets (in council-run places such as markets) are free but the vast
majority of public toilets need money to gain entry.

Every year for the last 16 years, our main summer holiday (vacation for our
american cousins) has seen us leave our home in the north-west of England,
jump on a ferry Dover - Calais, drive up the coast to Oostende, and then
follow a route that takes us through Belgium, Germany and on to the final
destinations of Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia, where we tour around
for about 4 weeks before returning home again.

Almost *all* of the public toilets on the
motorways/autobahns/highways/freeways or whatever you want to call them,
throughout the entire route, make you pay to use them - as do the majority
of public toilets in the towns we stay in or pass through, and have done so
for the last 16 years that we know of.

There are so many things wrong with those two sentences that I wouldn't know
where to begin. Do you not think that the "free" health care is not paid
from their taxes?

Indeed! It was the fact that Medicare does not cover Americans
overseas, and that there are thus no reciprocal agreements between the
U.S. and countries with universal medical care (therefore I had not
"paid my dues" while employed) that prevented my trying to retire to
Vienna or Paris. (I have a fair aptitude for languages, so the fact I
am not fluent in either German or French didn't bother me - I knew I'd
learn quickly enough, living where I was expected to speak it daily, so
that was really not a deterrent.) Of course, that was a few years
before the Dollar began its catastrophic slide (my retirement income is
all in U.S. funds) so the main factor for remaining in the U.S. was
medical care costs.

I certainly have not seen them in restaurants, nor in museums and
concert halls! (It's true the latter often have a woman "attendant"
with a prominently displayed saucer containing money - a hint that
"donations" are welcome - but only with a tour group in Budapest did I
encounter a public lavatory that asked for money. (That was in Hero's
Square, and what one actually PAID for was a length of toilet tissue -
since I generally carry my own, in case of shortages, I chose not to pay.)

Actually, I've encountered more coin-operated public loos in the U.S.
than abroad.
