Default Belize question

How far from the dock to a beach? Any local shopping? Are taxis generally
available? Thanks for any input.

There is no beach in Belize. You can take a tour to one of the islands and
probably should. I am not a proponent of ship tours, but in Belize, and
especially if this is your first cruise, I would recommend it. There are no
taxis that I know of but I would not get in one if there were. The pier area
is fenced to keep the locals out and tourist in. Crime is a problem. The
pier area has the usual shops, but they are not as "fancy" as other ports.
Their is a flea market right outside of the gate of the pier area. I shopped
there and found some good deals.

All that said, Belize is one of my favorite places as I tend to like places
that are not yet tourist traps and are developing. Belize is a beautiful
country, but you need to have an open mind about the place. I've been twice
and each time enjoyed this port...we cave tubed once (recommended and a ship
tour) and this past year, we went to a ruin & city(private tour and much
cheaper than the ship tour). I've foudn the people that I dealt with on
those tours to be very nice.
