At the very minimum I would plan on at least an hour to and hour and a half. It
is not all that far as the crow flies but it does not take much to really mess up traffic in that area so allow as much time as you can. Traffic on I-405, the freeway you likely will use most of the way from LAX
to Long Beach, is unpredictable. If there is no serious traffic problems, the trip should take no more than 30 to 45 minutes. However, if there is a traffic problem, you can expect to take up to two hours for the trip. The general rule of thumb from most cruisers is to try to arrive in the port city the day before the cruise. That way, you can arrive at the ship rested and prepared for your cruise rather than stressed out from the trials and tribulations of modern air travel. About an hour and a half, in no traffic you can do it in 35 minutes.
An interesting option is to take the light rail bus from the airport to the light rail, take the light rail and transfer to the red line and it will take you down to the pier. also allow 1 1/2 hours "Myron Hanch" wrote in message news:%42Ab.18474$bC.7662@clgrps13... Well, not quite.
First of all it is the BLUE Line not the Red Line that runs into downtown Long Beach. Second, the Blue line will only take you as far as the downtown long beach transportation loop. From there you would need to take one of the Passport shuttle busses across the bridge to the other side of the downtown marina to where the Queen Mary and Cruise Terminal are located. Not recommended for those with luggage! Perhaps a better thing is to take a cab or shuttle directly from the airport to ship as early as possible, get settled on the ship, THEN take the free shuttle bus back across the bridge to downtown Long Beach for a look-see. Lots of great dining and entertainment options. Oh, and don't pass up the chance to see the Queen Mary while you are there. David (lives in Long Beach) "larry swaaley" wrote in message ink.net... You would have to lug all of your luggage on and off the bus. The rail station itself is raised and there may only be stairs. This will tahe you East to the transfer to the South bound train. There you would have to change levels, there is escalators here. Once in Long Beach, I have no idea other than taxi how to get to the ship. The main point is, 80% of this trip would be in less than safe conditions for an obvious tourist. "Anything that doesn't kill you,,,,,,,just hurts a hell of a lot" JLP20 |

Not to get in a ****ing match about whether downtown Long Beach has
good dining options but... Your selection of places is all over the map. The Colonial Buffet (a favorite for the "early bird special" set) would never be confused as a fine dining experience and the Long Beach Cafe is barely recognizable as an eating experience. It gives greasy spoons a bad name. Super Mex is expensive? Kings Fish House isn't a great restaurant but right next door is Alegria, a very nice Spanish Tapas restaurant. Bet you didn't try 555 (around the corner from Long Beach Cafe and Colonial Buffet) or the Rock Bottom Brewery or Mums (around the corner from Kings Fish House). I said Long Beach has some great dining options, I never they were cheap (they seldom are).
