Each excursion is different, some very short and some many, many hours
long.

and can the cruise line

If you are on a "ships excursion", the ship will wait for you if you are
late. If you are off on your own, or on a private tour and are late, the
ship will leave without you.

The time varies a lot, several hours on up. The excursions sold by the
cruise line cost a little more, but they won't leave without you. If you go
off on your own, you may get a great picture of the ship sailing away.LOL

Have a great cruise.

Depends on what you are doing, some can be as short as an hour or an hour
and a half walking tour, others can be nine hours or more, starting early in
the morning, having lunch out, and getting back just before dinner. They
will all be listed with their times when you pick them.

If you are not back in time and are on a ships excursion, they will either
wait for you or get you to the next port should something happen, but in
most all cases they will wait for you. If you are doing an excursion on
your own, then you are pretty much on your own if you are late. Anybody who
has cruised has seen people waving bye bye to the ship from the docks
because they were late.

Also, in most cases, if you are doing two in a day, a morning one and an
afternoon one and the morning one is running late they usually hold the
afternoon one so you still make it.

On our last cruise we watched a drunk passenger driven up the pier via golf
cart in Costa Maya....he was 45min late!!! The captain must have been
having a good day cause he waited for him...but hubby saw an officer
literally chew him out at the gangway (he zoomed in with his video camera
LOL)....and the passenger stumbled up the gangway.

It all depends upon the Captain...but they do have the authority to leave
without you if you aren't on a ships tour. That is one good thing about
booking a ships tour.
