Lufthansa will cancel your flight if they don't like your politics
All in all, the headline of the story is totally biased and has nothing
to do with Lufthansa. It's telling that website is some kind of pro-Israeli outfit. It's kind of ironic that Israelis should castigate a German airline for kowtowing to Israeli immigration rules, don't you think? As far as I can tell the report came from a somewhat oppositional Israeli newspaper which opposes the state's blockade on Palestine. I would hope there are Americans similarly willing to castigate foreign agencies and corporations kowtowing to their own government's repressive actions. Morality does not stop at national borders and is blind to citizenship. A lot of what the government of "my" country does is just plain evil, and Americans, Israelis and Palestinians all have every right to say so. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- e m a i l : j a c k @ c a m p i n . m e . u k Jack Campin, 11 Third Street, Newtongrange, Midlothian EH22 4PU, Scotland mobile 07800 739 557 http://www.campin.me.uk Twitter: JackCampin |

No airline will risk boarding passengers if the destination country is certain to refuse entry. The airline would be forced to fly them back again at the its' expense. Nothing at all to do with Lufthansa making a decision based on politics. False reasoning, if they paid a round trip fare Lufthansa has no extra expense. False reasoning. They have to fly them back on the same plane, regardless, whether they have to bump another pax or put them in 1st class is their problem. Falser reasoning. What do you mean the same plane? That plane maybe going onto another destination. May have already taken off by the time the Immigration lads have done their thing. |

[bad editorializing and misinterpretation snipped] http://www.windsorstar.com/story_pri...5&sponsor=true Multiple airlines cancelled those bookings (not the flights, the bookings) of ticket-holders: "Activists said at least 60 Belgian and 40 French citizens were unable to fly despite having tickets. Most of them had been due to fly with Brussels Airlines, while the rest were supposed to travel with Lufthansa and Swiss Air." and: "...Israel vowed to prevent their entry, warning foreign airlines they would be forced to foot the bill for the activists' immediate return home in a move which saw many carriers toeing the line..." and there the statement from Netanyahu: "We appreciate your choosing to make Israel the object of your humanitarian concerns." "We know there were many other worthy choices. You could have chosen to protest the Syrian regime's daily savagery against its own people, which has claimed thousands of lives." "We therefore suggest that you first solve the real problems of the region, and then come back and share with us your experience." "Have a nice flight." By the way, why weren't *you* joining these brave protesters? |

But it is also a fact that a country has the right to deny access to its
shores to any non citizen it wishes. Many democratic countries exercise that right, the British do so regularly when US demagogues like Louis Farrakhan want entry to cause trouble, but no-one ever says 'This is against international law' unless Israel is concerned. The law didn't come into it. Israel didn't declare these people's visit illegal. They simply got Lufthansa to do their bidding. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- e m a i l : j a c k @ c a m p i n . m e . u k Jack Campin, 11 Third Street, Newtongrange, Midlothian EH22 4PU, Scotland mobile 07800 739 557 http://www.campin.me.uk Twitter: JackCampin |
