Oh, not, not at all. Tapas is a pretty generic term for small portions
served in bars etc., though they're available in many restaurants too.

Check out-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapas

Depending how kosher you are, there are some other things I imagine you
won't eat- hellfish tapas for example, and some mix meat with dairy.
Indeed, you might not want to eat separate dairy and meat tapas in the
same sitting.

100% kosher, so yeah, 'hellfish' [1] are out. We observe Sépharade
cacherout, so it's six hours between meat and dairy.

Make it lunch for one, dinner for the other then!

Oh, and things to see, would be nice.

The three art museums, the Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-
Bourmisza are all well worth seeing if you have any interest in art.

The Royal Palace.

The Parque del Buen Retiro, one of the largest and most beautiful
urban parks anywhere.

The Templo de Debod, an Egyptian temple reassembled in a Madrid park.

As for food, tapas bars are a must, you can find regional cuisines
from all over Spain, and Madrid also has many excellent and
inexpensive grilled meat restaurants (parrilladas).

Thanks for those suggestions. I'll pass on the tapas, though, as we're
Jewish and so pork is a no-no. I've seen del Prado a few times, but
you're right: it has to be done again. :-)

Considering your religion and depending on your interests you may want
to check on the smallish museum that the Jewish community in Madrid
keeps. Their website is http://www.comjudiamadrid.org

You may even get a list of kosher tapas through them :P
