Default Amtrak woes part deux

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my 80-year old mother-in-law was 5
hours late on the Coast Starlight arriving in Tacoma on the 22nd. This
morning she called to let us know she had been sitting in an unheated,
unlit train car for more than 7 hours since the southbound train broke
down in Klamath Falls, Oregon. (Red Cross workers had provided coffee,
donuts, and extra blankets.) She was waiting for a bus to arrive to
take her to Sacramento, where another train may (we hope) get her to
Union Station in LA, about 12 hours late.

I think Amtrak might as well give up on its West Coast long distance
train "service". Obviously, they are just not able to perform.

Perhaps US Airways should take over the service!
