Is it expensive for Americans to travel in Australia??
On the other hand the current ratio may be the best you will have
for ten years. A notch or two down-market with a better cost-stress ratio is often more relaxing than last-cent budgeted luxury. I dare to repeat something I've spouted a few times here, on the topic of currency exchange rates, interest rates, and housing prices: if you can predict these with any accuracy, go to work for the RBA and write your own ticket. They pay people heaps to guess wrong, as do most central banks. As far as travel goes, even 10% - a huge difference in currency terms - will make a difference of only a few hundred dollars in all but the most upscale or long-term travel plans. Fugedabudid. If you're that tightly budgeted, hang in there until you can truly enjoy your travels. RAB (who is eternally glad his five-figure, 2001 4.5 month expedition in Australia was when the AUD was CAD0.75, not a little above par). --multiplaza.nl.nu-- |

Personally, I consider Internet-free and gadget-free an essential part of a (Oz) holiday. My only compromise is a mobile phone (when there is coverage (yeah, right!)) and a Telstra Phone Away card to send/tell "We're not dead yet!" messages to the poor souls back home. So Richard, *if* you're reading this: Get the insert_hot_place out of that Internet cafe and back into the real world! Frank, and Peter: Well, as you noticed, I was completely silent for the entire two months :-) I had the option, many times, to drop into an internet cafe but resisted (mainly I didn't want to know how badly Stanford did in the college baseketball playoffs, which I just found out were *very bad indeed*. Anyway, I'll eventually get back in the mix and describe my terrific vacation. As of now, we're still unpacking. Richard --multiplaza.nl.nu-- |

fairly pricey. (Before you ask, *no* I didn't chow down on a
Kangaroo steak, not at $25.90 :-) Bloody oath, 'roo filet was something like AUD $5.00 a kilo, give or take, at the Port Augusta Woolies in 2001/2/3. Mmmmmmm...... --multiplaza.nl.nu-- |
