Last thing you want is to be sun burnt while on holiday.

I've noticed a few hotel pools like that. If they're next to a tall

building planners don't think of things like this.

Perhaps they do. Isn't it just fine that one can be as much as possible

in
shade in places like Bangkok.

I also think it might be intentional. My building's pool is in the shade
pretty much all the time, and it was clearly constructed that way - it
doesn't have to be. And I for one am happy about it. Who wants to sit

around
in a giant solar lens?

So can anyone recommend a reasonably-priced hotel in Bangkok with in-room
internet (wired or wireless)? Thanks.

To answer my own question, I am posting from the Royal Benja (end of Suk soi
5). 4000/night rack rate, but a 5-minute walk down the street to the first
travel agency I encountered got it for me at 1600/night. 24 hours of
ethernet costs an extra 650, so the total ends up around US$55.

On some floors the network is flaky (they use that HomePNA
ethernet-over-phone-lines stuff) so make sure you're on one where it works
(31 is known to be good).

Also, Big John's guesthouse over on soi 55 reportedly has wifi coverage in
all the guest areas but it was booked up when I stopped by. Would have been
a lot cheaper at about 300/night. But this way I get buffet breakfast, which
is worth any amount of money to me.

Update on hotel in Bangkok: I am writing this from the Siam City
Hotel.
If you are looking for a hotel with a good pool, DO NOT SAY HERE
THEN.
The pool must be the only one in Asia that is constantly in the
shade... ! Too bad I chose this hotel :-(

Unless it is under a roof, I cannot possible see how it can always
be
in the shade.

Well, most non-farang (and a few "local" farangs) aren't too keen on
getting tanned anyway. But my point was that even at the bottom of a
well here in Thailand, there is bound to be sunshine some of the time.
So I find it hard to understand that an outdoor swimming pool could be
in the shadow "constantly". But I guess this is tetrapyloctomy.....
:-)
