Cheap air fare - Los Angeles to Honolulu

I was invited to visit friends in Honolulu. I'd like to find the
cheapest possible air fare. I've heard that you can go for around $250
round trip, but most of the fares I've been quoted recently are close
to double that.

Is Priceline.com the best bet? How about acting as a courier? Are
there any other options for super cheap air fare? What time of the
year do the airlines offer the best deals?
