Cruise Execs See Better Pricing

A cruise I have been watching for a few months for March 2010 just went up 5% for the first 2 pax in cabin... adding a 3rd pax in the same cabin has remained the same price. jay Sat Jun 06, 2009 Update: the cruise noted above has now dropped below the original low price by $30pp, the 3rd pax in cabin is the same. ;-) jay Mon Jul 20, 2009 |

What do people here suggest to do for a cruise like this if you have a choice? I am assuming paying a deposit does not entitle you to a price reduction if the price drops (I have never seen language suggesting that in the cruise line's terms and conditions, though agents claim they have recovered the difference in credits or in cash, sometimes after canceling and rebooking). With Carnival's "early saver" you actually do have price protection... at the cost of the non-refundable deposit. jay Mon Jul 20, 2009 |

If the fare drops before final payment, the reservation can be re-booked at the lower fare. There are some exceptions (Carnival's Early Saver fare gives you an OBC for the difference). If the fare drops AFTER final payment, some lines will issue a refund (Royal Caribbean, Celebrity), some will try to offer upgrades and/or ship credits. Sometimes they stand pretty firm, especially if the ship is almost sold out and they are trying to sell off just a few cabins. The worst one is NCL who most often has an "if your customer wasn't happy with the original price, why did they pay for it?" attitude. Most of the time, if the fare goes down, a TA can usually get some form of compensation... but it is getting tougher. -- George Leppla http://www.CruiseMaster.com Cruise Specials Weblog http://cruisemaster.typepad.com/my_weblog/ September 19, 2009 Carnival Glory http://www.cruisemaster.com/glory.htm January 10, 2010 Southern Caribbean http://www.cruisemaster.com/caribprin.htm October 16, 2010 OASIS http://www.motherofallgroupcruises.com |
