low cost cruise on west coast

what are the best value budge cruises on the west coast going either
to mexico or alaska from northern california?

San Francisco seems more expensive than San Diego or Los Angeles
to Mexico. If you want lowest per diem cost head south to begin your
cruise to Mexico or north to begin your cruise to Alaska.

At least this year we will see more choices from San Francisco....

Celebrity is running several West Coast cruises starting in March
focusing on ports in California, Oregon and Washington.
The Dawn Princess returns for service to Alaska.
In the fall the Norwegian Sun will serve Mexico and
there are a couple of rounds of service by the Star Princess
beginning in October and next March.

The Carnival Splendor is listed a couple of times in San Francisco
in March of '09.

for a list of all ships stopping through San Francisco.

For lowest fares to Alaska look early (May) or late (September)
in the season or take a chance and hope for last minute Flash
rates.

I don't know other Northern California ports with hope of
budget cruise service. Redwood City was serving Cruise West
as a port of embarkation for a few short wine county cruise
last fall, but those are a bit pricey.
