Australia's Nullarbor Plain
Dog Rusty and I spent several weeks crisscrossing the amazing
Nullarbor. It’s called the flattest place on Earth. In the north, the railway runs straight for 478km (297miles) without a bend. Once we camped where the moist climate of the ocean meets the dry air of the inland. That’s a battle line and produces the fiercest sunrises I have ever seen (like the one at http://www.oz-greetings.com.au/photo/8 . Click on the shot to enlarge it). In the south are the forbidding Nullarbor cliffs battered by the Southern Ocean. At the Head of Bight is a major breeding and calving site for the huge Southern Right Whale. One can view them from the top of the cliffs - the best viewing spot in the world. Most tourists stick to the perfect highway. I love the inland. From horizon to horizon nothing more than ankle-high. It’s otherworldly. And the night sky is overwhelming. There’s a lot about that fascinating spot at http://www.oz-greetings.com.au/geolo...LIAN-BIGHT--b- Greetings - Klaus & Rusty |
