You are a little over an hour from Calgary when you are in "Canmore", or the
town of "Banff". The Park itself is big and Banff townsite is at the south
end.

So, the night of Day 6 looks like your best shot if it is planned for an
overnight in the town of Banff or Canmore.

Rudy - I don't know where you got your data from but you're dead wrong.
Canmore is 64 miles, or about 100km from Calgary and it can be done in an
hour.

Don't mislead people cause you ain't thorough.

Its not possible to get one extra day in our trip, so what we'd like to do
is drive from Revelstoke to Calgary, spend time with family (dinner, go out
etc) and drive to Canmore/Banff NP the next day.
I know Banff is big and a day is to short but it's all we've got time for.

I don't know how many family members Klaas is talking about, or what their
circumstances are, but maybe it would be possible to combine visiting and
sightseeing.

What I'm thinking is that maybe the family could make a day-trip to Banff
NP at the same time that Klaas will be there; they go sightseeing together
and eat together -- either at a restaurant in Banff, or picnic style.
They would have to work out the logistics, of course -- where to meet,
how many cars, who brings the picnic food if applicable. And they might
want to vary their plans if the weather turns out to be bad.

Just an option to consider if Klaas and his family find it a good idea.

Just my cousin, he works in Calgary and we'll visit the rest of his family
when we go to toronto.
The idea is to drive to calgary, get together and catch up have dinner and a
nice evening and depart to Bannf NP the next day.

Default detour to Calgary in route Revelstoke - Banff/Canmore ARAMIS is confused

Aramis..GIVE YOUR HEAD A SHAKE !
I quoted HIS itinerary.."Aug 5 Revelstoke /Banff Canmore... 280KM"

He asked WHERE in his itinerary he would be closest to Calgary. That was
the question.

"Aug 5....Canmore 280KM" is the answer. Dont mislead people until YOU can
read the original post and comprehend what is going on.

Oh, yeah, you were clear as a bell.

When someone asks where he will be closest to another place it's wise to
include a distance in your response that represents his entire mileage for
the days journey.

I'm sure no one read your response, but me, of course, and thought that
Canmore was 280 km from Calgary. You simply couldn't have phrased your
response any clearer.

I stand corrected.
