Flying to Singapore With Baby
Wife and I will be going to Singapore this summer with our 6 month old.
We have been for a few visits but this will be the first with the baby. Just wondering if anyone has any tips or advice on traveling with a baby on the long leg. We'll be flying UAL and going through Chicago and then to Singapore. I've heard about trying to get the bulkhead seats but I didn't like the idea of not being able to see the TV for 14 hours. Someone else is flying with us also so we managed to book 3 seats together by the window. The baby will be on our lap, but atleast no one will be sitting next to us. - Any tips? - Anything we should ask for? - Also, Are the flights now straight to Singapore from Chicago? The intiniary didn't show a stopover but we used to stop in Japan. |

I take it United don't have personal TVs, If the flight isn't full one could babysit whilst the other 2 could change seats to view the film. Jan |

Sorry, maybe I should clarify. The TV isn't a concern but the bulk
head seats are all booked up but I can always check again when we check in at the airport. I was just thinking that if she sleeps, it shouldn't be a problem anyway. (One can dream) Anyway, we did manage to reserve a "floor bassinet" but I am not sure how those work. Customer Service said it fits in front of you on the floor but then where do our feet go? Like I said, we will have 3 seats together so that will be good to have a "semi-private area". Any other suggestions..... |

you have to ask for a bassinette I have flown a few times and even if the
seats are taken ask the stewardess to ask the people to swap most times they do . Y ou have to have the baby on your lap for take off and landing but during the flight a cot is the only option. Take plenty of milk and water for the baby in case u get a delay en route good luck "WonderingDaddy" wrote in message oups.com... Sorry, maybe I should clarify. Flying to Singapore With Baby
One tip we received when travelling with our daughter when she was a baby -
if the bulk head seats are taken by people without a baby (in Australia they are often given to full fare paying passengers - usually travelling for work) and the flight attendant won't ask if they will swap, go up and ask if you can leave the baby in the bassinet, tell them where you are sitting and ask them to let you know if the baby wakes up. In our experience they have been packing up their stuff before we finished asking! Take plenty of nappies (diapers for my American friends). Although airlines say they carry these on board they are always the wrong size for your baby and on a long flight is the last time you want to run out! I checked the UAL website and although it is a dog's breakfast I did eventually find that there is at least one stop and sometimes more. View that as a great opportunity to stretch your legs and let your baby have time away from the plane - at 6 months she will still be able to have a bath in a sink, which would relax her. Flexibility is the key when travelling with babies! Most important of all - enjoy the trip, or at least once you have arrived at your destination. "WonderingDaddy" wrote in message oups.com... Thanks all.
Pied Piper, I was asking about the floor bassinet. UAL has wall bassinets for the bulk head seats and floor bassinets for other areas. Does anyone know abou the floor bassinets? Right now, we are the rear of the plane (about 3 rows from the back). I kind of like this idea since we can take the baby to the back for some floor time. She will about 8 months when we go this summer. |

They can't go in front of exit row seats- safety again. How can they go on the floor between seats?- lets face it unless you're flying first class, there's hardly enough room for your own feet. Mind you, We flew to the States a couple of years ago on United, I was sat ( Orlando-Chicago ) next to a lady with baby about a year old, I was horrified to discover she had not been given a lap belt for her baby, when I asked her about it, she said she'd never ever been given a belt on any previous flights either !!! So perhaps Uniteds Safety rules are lower than other airlines I've flown on. Jan |
