Default princess cruises: charter flights to tahiti

All,

Booked my 10-day tahitian cruise may 7 - 17 through
Princess. We booked airfare from LAX because we have
enough miles to fly free to LAX from our hometown,
so we only used the cruise line for the LAX - PPT
portion.

Anyway, we pushed on the cruise line to give us exact
dates for the flights out of LAX so we could book our
hometown - LAX flight early. Turns out that Air
Tahiti Nui is *sold out* of flights from LAX - PPT,
so the cruise line reported that they would "charter"
a flight to take any cruise pax that didn't get booked
before it was sold out.

My question is, "charter" to me means "small", but how the
hell can you fly small planes across the pacific? Does
Air Tahiti/Princess charter through other airlines, like
United or maybe Quantas?? Are there spare 747's or 767 ER's
sitting around in hangars at LAX for this purpose? I doubt
it. What should I expect in terms of service? I don't
want some fly-by-night crappy airline with questionable
maintenance records flying me 3000 miles over water.

Hi Chris,

They don't fly small planes. It will be a large plane, not a commuter
type plane.

There are many charter companies with large planes.

There are companies with these planes available all over the country
including at LAX. That being said, your plane may come from anywhere.

When was the last time you heard of a large US charter falling out of
the sky? ;=)

Best regards,
Ray

You have the WRONG thought in your head of small planes =Charter IN
Philadelphia Apple Vacations is a big wholesaler- they have USA 3000 planes
these are new Big planes, they go a step beyond sserving Mimosas free in
flight, baking cookies in flight and you get a menu with meal choices. So
people come back and never a complaint about them , So get that worry out of
your head!

We booked our own air on Air Tahiti Nui. Everything was nice except
our knees met our chin a lot. The charter plane to LAX two hours
after we left Papette was large, an Airbus I think, but it was kind of
dark. The incoming Princess passengers we met in Tahiti were pleased
with their charter arrangements. A word of advice, use Princess
transfers, enjoy the beauty of French Polynesia keeping to the water
oriented sides of the islands. Inland areas were mostly shacks and
mosquitos. We believe that Princess shore excursions will be the
cheapest thing you will find in that area of the world. Papeete,
Moorea, Bora Bora cheeseburger $18. Cabs about $2/minute. A cheap
beer $4.80. Cheapest ratty souveneir T shirt $25. Cheapest room at
Sheraton Moorea $399. Those quaint little over water huts you see in
the brochures--a cheapee in Moorea was $750, in Bora Bora they were
having a sale for only $1007 a night. French Polynesian Francs--not
worth worrying about. They are light like potato chips, but big like
silver dollars and make good souveneirs for the grandkids.
Congratulations, you have picked the very best way to visit French
Polynesia, by cruise ship. During our time there we observed the Paul
Gaughin and Windstar or wind something. The Tahitian Princess from an
outward appearance looked much better than the others.
