Wildlife Parks and Cricket
I shall be visiting the Canberra/Sydney/Melbourne/Gold Coast area from
25Dec-17Jan for a vacation with my family. Could the regulars here point me to a FAQ or links to wildlife parks where we could stay for a few days. I would also like to squeeze in the India/Aus one day match (cricket) on Jan 9, 2004 at Melbourne Cricket Ground. I live in the US, so is there a way to buy tickets in advance for this match. Or, would any regular familiar with attendance numbers at this ground recommend buying tickets on the day of the match. Thanks. |

Hmm...first posting isn't showing up, so I'll try another one (with slightly different information to minimize redundancy). At www.australia.com select the "Things to Do" link and then pull down to "amazing experiences" and/or "nature, wildlife & ecotourism." (The URLs for these seem to be generated on the fly, so just grit your teeth and work through the menus.) Some of the big-city zoos run sleepover programs--see information for Melbourne at www.zoo.org.au/Education/mzsleepovers.htm and Sydney at www.zoo.nsw.gov.au/content/view.asp?id=194 (Roar & Snore, if the link changes). Could the regulars here point me to a FAQ or links to wildlife parks where we could stay for a few days. OK, looks like my original reply vanished into the net-ether, so here's a reconstruction. So much for Notmail 8( . I don't know offhand of wildlife parks in the areas you've listed have lodging on-site, if that's what you mean by "staying for a few days." If that's what you want, try looking for accommodation inside a national park. 2 possibilities would be Binna Burra (www.binnaburralodge.com.au) and O'Reilly's (www.oreillys.com.au/), both in Lamington NP near the Gold Coast. For day visits with lodging somewhere in the area, you could try Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (www.currumbin-sanctuary.org.au/) and the David Fleay Wildlife Park (commonly known as "Fleay's," http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/nature_con...wildlife_park/ and associated links) in the Gold Coast region. In the Melbourne area, try the Healesville Sanctuary (www.zoo.org.au/visiting.cfm?zoo_id=2). It's actually some 45 miles out of town, but accessible by public transportation if you won't have a car. There are also some lists of zoos and wildlife parks at www.zoos.org/zoos/AUSTRAL.html and www.acn.net.au/articles/zoo/ . Some of the less well known ones might have on-site lodging--just randomly poking about turned up the Wirrimbirra Fauna & Flora Sanctuary, which has places to stay if you're willing to rough it, is within 2 hours' drive from Sydney, and is also located near a dingo sanctuary (www.dingosanctuary.com.au/). Cricket:
You will be able to buy tickets for the cricket at the ground, on the day. MCG has a huge capacity, and it's unlikely even the finals will be totally sold out! Wildlife Parks: O'Reilly's just behind the Gold Coast is superb. Good food, and well organised bush walks, wildlife exploration plus a 'rainforest treetop walk' http://www.oreillys.com.au/content/default.asp Paul "Raj" wrote in message om...
