Default [Plane] How to carry CD/DVD box set, best option ?

Hello,

I will be going back home in a couple of weeks and I am wondering
how I should carry my CD/DVD box sets. Should I simply get a rigid
luggage ? I am afraid this will be difficult to optimize filling this
kind of suitcase. I am also very worried about the handling, I have
never been able to carry CD case, and get the box in one piece after
traveling in a plane (CDs were always ok though).
As a side note, any suggestion when carrying books, heavy but not as
fragile. Additional luggage are ~100$ piece, right ?

Thanks for comments
-Matt
