Madeira - cheap travel and accommodation?

Any suggestions how I can get from England to Madeira economically? The
deals I can find all seem to favour the travelling couple and are expensive
for a single traveller.

Accommodation also is expensive and mostly 5 star - any ideas for simple
cheap lodgings for a week?

Have a look at www.holidayrentals.co.uk there are some very nice apartments.
Also check TAP for flights, they allways have some good deals.
