Default UNITED Airlines SUCKS

If there was a travel website that actually showed the *real* cost of
each airline's ticket, including fees and so on, the results would be
ordered far differently than on a regular travel website.

Here is a website worth checking:

What ticks me off is...the whole charging for baggage now. I never
check my luggage...I always have a small pilot case I use for all my
business trips. If it doesn't fit in the case, I don't bring it.
United loads the aisle seats last. As I was leaving Newark last
Sunday, the person on the loudspeaker announces, "Those of you who
have some carry ons still may have to check your baggage, as the
overhead flight compartments are filling up." I turned to the guy
next to me and said, "Oh, no I'm not....I'll throw myself on the
ground and have a tantrum." (Of course I was--partially--kidding.) I
boarded the plane with my pilot case and there seemed to be plenty of
room. I wondered if they just needed the money.

Does UA charge gate checked bags? or... for the Brits: Do UA charge for
gate checked bags?

How exactly is UA ripping off the public?
They must be really bad at it, considering they have been losing money
for years.

To give a few examples - there is literally one person at the check in
counter - it's all automated and most of it sucks. They charge 15 per
checked bag, unless you're a premier United member. (Which I would NEVER do
with this airline.) They charge for food on domestic flights, which is
overpriced and which they ran out of before they got past row 15. Their
headsets are decrepit, they stuff you in your seats like a sardine. Want
more?

Back in 2005, United managed to lose my baggage on a *one-leg* flight
from Albany to Dulles in *both* directions. So don't give me this
nonsense that they lost it because I chose insane connection times.

RIF.

I said "A lot of the situations". Not all.

But speaking as someone who travels a lot, I read a *lot* of the columns
written by journalists who cover the travel industry and they agree -- the
desire to seek the lowest possible fare no matter what is often what leads
to the subsequent travel nightmares.

I buy food at the airport, I rarely check a bag and a print out my
boarding pass before I even get to the airport. Yes, you are packed
like sardines, but I'm 6'3"...if I can handle it, you certainly can.

IAWTP. The airlines face a nightmare business model. They have to
make projections on fixed assets years in advance and therefore have
high fixed costs per flight. This leaves them very susceptible to
price changes in their variable inputs like fuel. They also have
perfect price transparency. I can select the lowest fare in less than
five minutes by going to one website.

A couple years ago at ORD, we were stuck on the tarmac due to weather for
about 2 hours, went back to the gate and waited another 1 1/2 hours, then
waiting in line to take off for another hour. We were not allowed to get
off the plane at the gate, nor did United load any more food. So, like you
said, they ran out of food and the people in the back got nothing. Why
couldn't United load more food if they knew that we were sitting for 4 1/2
hours, and then flying another 4 hours to LAX. Really ****ed off alot of
pax for something United could've easily avoided.

United sucks if you are ahead of the wings.
It blows if you are behind the wings.

So the solution is to be right over the wings. Less of a view, but it
neither sucks nor blows.
