Auto rental optional insurance
Hello,
Can someone point me to a website that explains the reasons and risk of opting out of auto rental optional coverages? Options a - CDW - covered by some credit cards - Personal accident insurance - Liability insurance - Theft protection Also, I read somewhere, if renting in Europe, one should take all the optional coverage (Inclusive)? Thanks - |

Much of it depends on which country you are renting in. |

It depends on your own insurance coverage, your employer's coverage, and your credit card's coverage. So, one major reason for opting out is that you are already covered. When renting in the US, most US credit cards offer secondary coverage, and require your own insurance is primary. CDW or LDW coverage varies by agency and the amount of the deductible can vary greatly. The actual coverage you get for PAI, Theft, Liability varies greatly by company and location. The main question is how you feel the price of the "insurance' rates relative to the potential liabilities you have if there is a problem and you have a problem. It is important to note that it is possible that you will not only be charged for the value of the car, but also other costs associated with the rental company not having use of the damaged vehicle. In my own case, I tend to take CDW/LDW only when I need to. Italy was the only location in recent times where I was forced to take it. I only take the CDW/PAI/Liabiltity/Theft coverages on business trips when our contracts do not cover them. Have a nice trip |

Gee, could it be because your employer is watching you??? I have made many on topic posts to rta. You have too, just not under this name. So they disciplined you and cut off your newsgroup posting from work and now you're trolling double from home late into the night. Just remember, that will get forwarded to them too. The post you followed up was posted at 8:32 AM. Is this your opinion of "late into the night"? What is the purpose of forwarding that post to my employer? Have a nice trip to Vegas. |

His main hangout is alt.visa.us.marriage-based, a sleazy newsgroup where foreigners wanting to immigrate to the US hook up with losers like Voight who are willing to marry them for money so they can get their green card. Voight is a pro at this, handing out daily advice on how to be a sleazoid like him and sell green cards. When he isn't giving out advice on how to commit federal crimes OK, google god, show us. Please show one post where I told someone to violate immigration law. If you actually read the newsgroups, you would notice that my post are highly bent in favor of obeying immigration law and obtaining the correct visa. In fact, you even harassed me for my rec.travel.air post in which I indicated a journalist should have applied for the correct visa. |

I don't see what this has to do with air travel. You should probably ask your credit card issuer about this issue, or just do a Google search. |

I think it's relevant the same way that discussing which trains go to a particular airport is relevant. |

You need to call your insurance company and talk to them - not anyone on Usenet. Ask them what you are covered for and what they advise. |

I often do not take the optional car-rental insurance, costs me more
money.... that's ok as long as you don't have anything unplanned happen... I was on vacation was driving a long and hit a birdge in Mendocino County along the 101 in Northern California had to pay National Car Rental $6000 for the car and the county to repair the bridge....for some unknown reason my insurance refused to cover... I hate insurance companies.. they take your money but when you need them, the often weasel out or find some disclaimer to wave at you |
