Driving to Dubrovnik from Trieste
We'll be driving Trieste-Dubrovnik in October. My Italian rental
company (Sixt) says we can't go into Bosnia. However I'm told that crossing the Neum corridor of Bosnia is essentially a nonevent-that they don't necessarily stop or check you and the insurance on my VISA covers us in Bosnia. But before I reserve the ferry from Dubrovnik back to Italy I want to be sure that I'm not going to be turned back at the Bosnian border. If you have experience with this drive I'd appreciate hearing-along with any other suggestions you've got. Thanks. |

I'm surprised that they consider Bosnia more risky than Croatia However I'm told that crossing the Neum corridor of Bosnia is essentially a nonevent-that It was when I went through. This was about 6 years ago though. they don't necessarily stop or check you and the insurance ISTM that the worst that can happen if they decide that you don't have insurance is insist that you buy some from them. This happened to the car in front of me in Croatia, a country which at the time was not included in 'green card' insurance [1]. on my VISA covers us in Bosnia. I found that entering Bosnia via the little road that turns off this section of the main road was a pain free way of entering the rest of the country. But I guess that you don't actually want to do this :-) Thanks. tim [1] Yes I know full well that it's not called this, but it is still how most people refer to it. |

You can take ferry in Ploce which drive to peninsula Peljesac (45 minutes, 20 EUR one way) and then to Dubrovnik. from time to time they check passports or IDs on border. this is only way to avoid driving through Bosnia until they build a bridge Ivan |
