Default Saudi Arabia opens its doors to tourists

Gregory Morrow writes:

The Saudis would do well to plan for some kind of industry or
something, it's not like they are self - sufficient in anything...

Saudi Arabia is in a very precarious position, because once the oil
runs out, there will be nothing.

They have so much money that it's not really important.

They have less than they used to, and eventually they will run out.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as though they have a contingency plan
for that eventuality. Perhaps they will return to a nomadic desert
life, but that will come as quite a shock to today's population, and
that lifestyle will not support the number of people who live there
now.

Saudi Arabia hopes to attract a million visitors a year with the help
of a new tourism visa.

Eighteen approved tour operators in the kingdom have begun offering
visa services as part of a series of tourism initiatives announced last
week at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. The Saudi government is
also to begin issuing permits for tour guides from next month.

I bet that people will be lining up to go to a country that has previously barred tourists and keeps foreign workers in housing
compounds partly for their own safety and partly to stop them from polluting Saudis with their infidel beliefs. I can't myself
wasting my time and money to go a land of sand, sun and Islamic extremists.

I wonder how many are Islamic extremists, and I wonder how many of them
resort to violence.
Do you have some figures ?

It was enough for me to see the story of a British man who went beyond
the compound, and was caught where a bomb went off. He wasn't hurt
badly by the bomb, but he was later 'questioned' to within an inch of
his life.

Yes, I mean that he was tortured to the point that he wont ever
recover.

did you ever see 'Midnight Express' ?
did you ever go to Turkey ?

It was Mixi's first 2006 joke be quiet and appreciate it.

What makes you sure it was a joke?

When Martin isn't posting here or vacationing in Volendam, he's reading
Mixi's blog.

There is no gurantee of that. We have seen no evidence to date.

We have the history of all the developed countries as evidence, and
the evidence is consistent.

What makes you think they have less money than they used to?

Their peak of wealth was some years ago; it varies considerably with
the wavering fortunes of the oil industry.

In any case, only an extremely small percentage of the population
actually has any money to speak of.
