Guest House/Bed&breakfast in DELHI INDIA!
"Stem sells" wrote in message ... Thanks for your speedy reply, WIlliam! I called up some hotels and guest houses in Delhi/New Delhi area, and they would have a 512kbps internet connection. Also, I will be using this during off-peak hours - let's say from 6:00 PM - 3:00 AM IST. From your perspective, is a 256kbps connection fast enough for me to be able to use my Vonage VOIP? If 256kbps is good, than 512kbps is, for sure, really good. I have a 5Mbps connection, and it's perfectly good. Thanks for your time. Skype works fine. Indian ADSL links are prone to being dropped and taking a couple of minutes to log back on and don't believe anyone who tells you they get consistent speeds from a domestic ADSL link in India, they don't. There will be a 'load shedding' some time on most evenings because that's when people go home and switch on their A/C system. -- William Black I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach Time for tea. |

"David Horne, _the_ chancellor (*)" wrote in message ... William Black wrote: "Stem sells" wrote in message ... Where can I find information on a guest house/paying guest/B&B/sublet for 2-4 weeks in New Delhi/Delhi (location is very flexible, provided that it's close to Delhi), with a A FAST AND RELIABLE INTERNET CONNECTION IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT FOR ME. I've tried to find this information on the NET, but without much success. Delhi will not provide a fast reliable home Internet service because it suffers from 'load shedding' and the power is off about 4 hours in 24 at reasonably random, but usually known to the locals, times throughout the day everywhere that doesn't have its own generator. Jeez- they still have that problem? It was like that in the 80s. I'd naively assumed that with the improvement in the economy etc., that those kinds of infrasructure things would be sorted by now... Not yet. Bombay (only the island, from spring this year the Bombay suburbs also suffer load shedding) remains the only place in the country with 24 hour power. The government wants to buy a shed load of nuclear reactors from the Russians and the French but can't, for internal political reasons, clinch the nuclear deal with the US to make it happen. -- William Black I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. I'd like to know, just what are you doing there in India? Not being cold. I'm retired. There is Spain of course! Closer to home. I know what India is like, and I have no doubt that it could get into your blood, but I was wondering what your history with the place is. Well for a start my wife is Indian and owns a couple of houses here, which makes things easy. She also speaks a collection of the local languages, which makes things even easier, and I prefer the food (and the people) to Spanish, plus most people I come into contact with speak some English, and most speak good idiomatic English. What else, I like the place, it's fun, everything is dead cheap, the place is full of interesting characters and Bombay especially has an atmosphere (and a smell) that no other city I've ever been to has. -- William Black I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. I'm sure there are down sides, like filth, disease and ****. **** and disease are only about in Summer and the monsoon period. Dirt and beggars are something you learn to live with. Best times are November to mid March. I hate to tell you this because your wife may read it but my sister reckons that if she spends a day in the beauty parlour, buys a dozen made to measure outfits and half a dozen pairs of shoes and handbags she makes back the cost of her air fare and a week in a medium priced hotel. My wife just reckons that the UK is unreasonably expensive for everything except make-up and chocolate... -- William Black I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
