Nice halfway point in VT between Quebec City and NYC?
We're tossing around an idea for next Summer. We'd like to go to
Quebec City, by car, from NYC. We've been to Quebec three times and even drove there once. But that was over 10 years ago, before we had a daughter. She's nine. In one direction, probably on the way up, we'll spend a day in Montreal. That's already a pretty long drive with a kid, but we like Montreal and that leaves a shorter drive to Quebec. On the way back we'd like to take a different route, along route 91 in Vermont. We'd like to stop someplace about halfway back to New York. White River Junction is about exactly 1/2 the distance, but as much as an hour either way would be fine. We wouldn't want to stray too far from the direct route though. We'd like to find something attractive to do for an afternoon/evening or maybe even stay over 2 nights and spend a whole day. It would be fun AND take some of the sting out of a 12 hour drive. Any ideas? Also, we don't really know anything about route 91, except that it's about the same mileage as going up through New York State. Is this a bad idea in any way? Thanks in advince. I was briefly in White River Junction, and it seemed as pleasant as anywhere in Vermont. Burlington is a pleasant small city, as city as Vermont gets. http://www.travel-vermont.com should provide plenty of ideas. -- --- "Wake Up, Everybody."--McFadden/Whitehead/Carstarphen RIP John Whitehead 1948-2004 |

Brattleboro and Keene are just south of
White River and worth a visit. Greg G wrote: We're tossing around an idea for next Summer. We'd like to go to Quebec City, by car, from NYC.
